Woodland Theme Wedding

One of my best friends got married last year, and had a woodland themed wedding. The venue was decorated beautifully with felted woodland scenes and animals (amongs other things) made by the bride, and knowing how talented this woman is I felt an immense pressure to get this cake right.

To make the cake extra special the grooms mother baked the bottom tier, one of the best fruit cakes I have ever tried! But having someone elses cake as a bottom tier certainly added to the pressure that my poor nerves had to endure.

And! To keep to tradition, the cake was of course baked during a UK heatwave. So if anyone wants a heatwave on your wedding - let me bake you the cake...!

Bottom tier - Fruitcake (no marsipan or nuts)

Middle tier - Vanilla sponge, vanilla buttercream and strawberry jam

Top Tier - Chocolate sponge, chocolate buttercream
